Basic knowledge about Cellulite and Its Formation

Cellulite is a term used to portray the appearance of bumpy looking fats on the body. Cellulite is not a disease, rather it is a condition where the fat cells bulge due to some coexisting factors, which cause the cellulite to appear. Our body has three layers of fat and cellulite exists in the layer of fat that is closest to the skin. Fat cells usually are found in a kind of pockets that are formed by collagen fibers. Sometimes, these fat cells can expand excessively and make the connective tissues called collagen fibers around them to bend. In this case, fat cells can squeeze the collagen fibers and make the lymphatic system has no room to drain the build up of fluids, fats, and toxins. In the end, this condition creates the appearance of puckering skin.

The two bottom layers of fat in the body do not have a structure and they do not have connective tissue separating them. To a degree, these layers of fat are also influenced by genetics. The fat in these layers usually are easy to be influenced by lifestyle and dietary changes. Unfortunately, the layer where cellulite exists does not respond well to exercise and diet. Even liposuction is difficult to be performed because of the fibrous strands. Hormones are one factor that can create the accumulation of fat in this cellulite layer.

The formation of cellulite

Many scientific studies have been performed to explain how cellulite forms. However, scientists still cannot determine how cellulite forms with one hundred percent confidence. Various researches have shown that the accumulation of swollen fat cells leads to the formation of cellulite because these swollen cells can press the connective fibers around them. This condition bends the connective fibers and as a result the skin is pulled downward, which create the puckered look on the skin surface.

Another scientific theory states that hormones produced by each individual male and female are responsible for this problem. This theory can explain why cellulite does not appear before puberty period. It also explains that women are more prone to cellulite problem than men because of the differences in the level of hormones found in male and female bodies.

Still, another argues that cellulite can be linked to the amount and quality of exercise and nutrition. This argument proposes that reducing the level of fatty cells with a healthy lifestyle can help reduce the appearance of cellulite. However, you should understand that diet and exercise cannot completely remove the problem because hereditary factor also plays a significant role in your skin's appearance.
